Annelies van Dommelen studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the New York Graduate School of Figurative Art, and privately with many different artists. She also attended the Vermont Studio Center and Penland for month long residencies. She has received fellowship grants from the New Jersey Council on the Arts, as well as the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Grant.

During her career, she has exhibited both in the United States and in Europe, in both juried and invited shows with awards following. Her work is colorful and utilizes special relationships, form and the tactile experience of the medium.
