Roxanna Velandria
Roxanna Velandria is a Dallas, Texas born artist and Brooklyn resident for 25 years. She is a mostly self taught representational painter, favoring the industrial urban landscape of Brooklyn. She studied Design Communication at Texas Tech University before moving to New York in 1989. She worked for many years as graphic designer and art director at various agencies before working in a Gownaus public school.Inspired by her obsession with the accidental and man made industrial beauty of Brooklyn, Velandria started painting in her bedroom working from photographs sketches and occasionally in plein air. She has participated in Gowanus Open Studios as well as exhibiting in Brooklyn Artist Space, Spoke the Hub, and Old First Reformed Church. She tutors and instructs adolescents in art. Her work is held in private collections.
