Colin D. Young

Colin’s landscape and nature photography document his travels locally in the Catskills, Shawangunk and Adirondack Mountains of New York, Brooklyn and Long Island, as well as across New England, Atlantic Canada, New Orleans, Iceland, the Rockies, the Canyonlands of Utah and the beaches and rainforests of the Caribbean. As a part-time resident of the Catskills for 8 years, he has driven and hiked across the Catskills in every season to capture the mountains, lakes and streams of this beautiful region. Recent changes in weather patterns have inspired an ongoing focus on the waterfalls of the Northeast. Colin is also an accomplished theatre photographer, and his theatre photos have appeared in the NY Times, Newsday, The Times (UK), Time Out NY (& London), American Theatre & New York Magazine.Colin is currently a member of the Brooklyn Waterfront Arts Collective, where he has been in several group shows, had a one-man exhibit at the Zoom Gallery in Fleischmanns, was part of a group show at MURAL in 2011, and won first prize in the photo division at the 2010 Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival, as well as winning online travel photography contests.He is also an award-winning lighting designer with more than 20 years of professional experience lighting for theatre, dance, television and corporate events, in venues from off-off Broadway to Carnegie Hall, from Edinburgh to Johannesburg, and for some of the best regional theaters across the country. He has lit more than 125 theatre and dance productions, for companies like The Classical Theatre of Harlem, Signature Theatre Company, Primary Stages, Woolly Mammoth, Goodman Theatre, Kirk Douglas Theatre & the Public Theatre, as well as his own Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway theatre company Reverie Productions, where he produced 18 New York, U.S. and World Premieres of new plays as Producing Artistic Director.
